Extraordinary collaboration

The culture and campus of St. Jude fosters free exchange of ideas among scientists and clinicians for creative, comprehensive science. Connections between faculty laboratories and massive collaborative initiatives position St. Jude as a leader in interdisciplinary basic and translational research. Science is not a singular enterprise, but a social endeavor defined by compassion and creativity. The relationships built, internal and external, expand the scope of the work and the reach of St. Jude’s impact. To further advance cures, St. Jude freely shares data and analytical tools with the global scientific community.

Innovative facilities

St. Jude supports scientific research by investing in resources, technologies, and infrastructure that represent a robust discovery and development pipeline that is unusual among academic institutions. From expanding computing and informatics capabilities, to building the world’s premier center for structural analysis and imaging of biomolecules, St. Jude fosters the growth of a physical environment to drive success. The Advanced Research Center accommodates 90 strategically positioned, cross-collaborative, research teams in their pursuit of understanding in RNA biology, epigenetics, and metabolomics. The campus and facilities of St. Jude bring expert faculty together with extraordinary, shared resources and financial support mechanisms to power transformative research.

Unique funding model

While St. Jude investigators and trainees are well-equipped and incredibly successful at securing competitive external funding, dedicated institutional support ensures that our researchers have the security and confidence to pursue transformative and daring questions. St. Jude is supported by ALSAC, one of the world’s leading nonprofit charitable organizations, which cultivates a generous donor base. The institution invests substantially in basic and clinical research programs, infrastructure, and professional development. The grants and sponsored programs office assists investigators at every career stage in their endeavors to obtain extramural funding for research and training. St. Jude’s unique operating model affords researchers access to exceptional resources and a remarkable degree of investigative freedom.

Unparalleled shared resources

St. Jude has over 20 core facilities and research resources that provide expertise and cutting-edge technologies to support collaborative work across the institution. The scientists and technologists who staff the facilities can serve as expert hands, consultants, in-depth trainers, or full collaborators in the development of new approaches. In addition to sample processing, each center supports investigators in the design, performance, and analysis of experiments. These shared resources expand capabilities, accelerate research and foster innovation. Additional support centers provide publication assistance, data storage and analytics, grants management, and technology licensing.
