Jeritza's story
In 2024, Jeritza began experiencing health issues. Doctors in their home country, the Dominican Republic, discovered a mass arising from her liver as well as several tumors in her lungs. A biopsy confirmed that it was stage four hepatoblastoma, a rare pediatric liver cancer
She started chemotherapy near her home, but her tumor was pressing against major blood vessels, meaning surgery at that time was not possible. Her oncologist referred her to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, where Jeritza received further treatment, including a targeted type of radiotherapy called Y-90, additional chemotherapy and surgery to remove the tumor. At St. Jude, Yeremi found hope that she desperately needed.
From the moment we arrived, her doctors at St. Jude were fully committed.
