When Sparrow was 5 months old, she stopped trying to learn how to crawl. “She’s always been cuddly, but she got super cuddly,” said her mom, Abri. “She had to be with me 24/7. She didn’t even want to go to her dad, her grandma or anybody.”
Sparrow’s parents had her in and out of doctors offices, but everyone kept telling them their baby's issues were allergies. Finally, at a local children’s hospital, bloodwork revealed Sparrow had acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a type of blood cancer. She was immediately referred to St. Jude.
Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.
Sparrow’s family was familiar with St. Jude. “I’d always donated,” Abri said.
Sparrow’s treatment includes chemotherapy. She has also received physical therapy, to ensure she regains her strength and meets her milestones.
Sparrow is a quiet, cautious baby who loves to cuddle. Her favorite person is her big brother, Jace.
