Internships

An internship at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital gives you a unique training experience while helping children with cancer and other life-threatening diseases. St. Jude offers internships, externships and other short-term training opportunities in areas as diverse as the hospital itself: from patient care and scientific research, to volunteer services, law and information technology.

  1. The Cancer Education internships are project focused with exposure to various applications of scientific concepts in the cancer research setting. Interns will translate the world-class research taking place at St. Jude into usable teaching tools and strategies that enhance science and cancer education in the K-12 classroom.

  2. Interns in the Child Life Department work closely with experienced child life specialists and families coping with chronic illness. The 16-week internship includes clinical rotations and educational seminars and is designed for college seniors, college graduates and master's students with backgrounds in child development, education, psychology or related fields.

The Communications and Public Relations Internship will be project-focused with exposure to various components of the public relations working environment. Interns will work side-by-side with communications experts and practitioners in a professional environment to gain insight and experience into the inner workings of a health care communications team.

Facilities Operations and Maintenance interns will work side-by-side with professionals on projects in a professional environment to gain insight and experience into the world of Facilities Management. The internship is project-focused with exposure to various components of our working environment.

  5. The Healthcare Administration Graduate Internship will provide future health care executives on-the-job learning opportunities with exposure to a variety of relevant and practical experiences in an academic healthcare environment.

  6. The Housing and Patient Services Internship offers a motivated individual an opportunity to spend a summer placement within the Housing and Patient Services department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

  7. The Human Resources Internship offers a motivated individual an opportunity to spend a summer placement within the Human Resources department at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

  8. The Information Services internship program offers motivated individuals an opportunity to spend a summer placement within the hospital’s Information Services Department. Interns work side-by-side with experienced information technology professionals and gain insight into the fast-paced world of health care IT.

  9. The Office of Legal Services offers immersive legal internships for second- and third-year law students. Interns work closely with in-house and outside counsel on substantive projects in many aspects of the law, with excellent mentoring, opportunities and client interactions.

  11. The renowned Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) Program offers funded summer internships in laboratory or clinical research for some of the country's top undergraduate, medical and graduate students.

  12. Predoctoral trainees may pursue pediatric psychology and neuropsychology rotations in the St. Jude Department of Psychology. These internships are part of the APA-approved University of Tennessee Professional Psychology Internship Consortium.

  13. The Security Management Internship is project-focused with exposure to various components of the working environment within St. Jude’s Security department.

  14. The Volunteer Services Department offers funded full-time internships for qualified undergraduate and master’s students. Interns gain well-rounded experience in many areas, including organizing programs and events, motivating and supervising volunteers, writing print materials, and performing office and data management functions.
