The Biomedical Library provides St. Jude faculty and staff with information both from the physical library and from electronic resources 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The library staff is available to answer questions in person, by phone or email Monday-Friday. The staff also assists with searching and provides specialized training for library resources upon request.

Electronic resources

The Biomedical Library purchases and maintains access to over 9,000 full-text journals, 30,000 electronic books and numerous databases. These site licenses are for authorized St. Jude users at the main campus.

Print collection

The library has a collection of books and journals representing the ongoing needs and subject areas of researchers at St. Jude including pediatrics, oncology, infectious diseases, genetics, cell biology, hematology, pharmacology, virology, and neurobiology.

Interlibrary loan

Book chapters and journal articles not available in our library can be obtained from other library collections or commercial vendors upon request. These photocopies are delivered electronically to the patron’s desktop. Researchers can send electronic interlibrary loan requests using the form located on the library’s internal web page.

Research support

Trained library staff members are available to advise St. Jude researchers on literature search strategies, resource selection, organization and workflows. Staff provide one-on-one orientations, training sessions and more to welcome new employees. The library’s website also supports the hospital’s research by providing links to key resources, training materials and research guides.

Special Collections

St. Jude Authors Reprints Collection

The library’s collection of St. Jude reprints reflects the hospital’s research efforts. Beginning with one volume that covers several years, the reprint collection now includes multiple volumes each year. It’s an interesting way to visualize the hospital’s history.

Dr. L.W. Diggs Collection

The Biomedical Library also houses the work entitled Sickle Cell Disease: Photographs and Photomicrographs from 60 Years of Study (1932-1993) and a collection of personal books and papers from Dr. Lemuel W. Diggs who collected information on the manifestations of sickle cell disease in every organ of the human body. Even before St. Jude opened its doors in 1962, it funded research conducted by Dr. Diggs at the University of Tennessee in the late 1950’s. Today, St. Jude’s Dr. Winfred Wang continues Dr. Diggs work treating more than 700 children with sickle cell disease in hopes of finding a cure.
