Meet
Camila

age 6, acute myeloid leukemia

In 2015, when Camila was just 5 years old, blood tests revealed she suffered from acute myeloid leukemia. After undergoing treatment in her home country of Nicaragua, the cancer did not go into remission. That’s when her family turned to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for her continuing treatment and care.

St. Jude is the greatest place. There’s nothing better for patients and their families. St. Jude is like heaven on earth.”

At St. Jude, Camila underwent a treatment plan that included chemotherapy and a bone marrow transplant.

Families never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Today, Camila is finished with treatment and she returns to St. Jude for regular checkup appointments. Erenia describes Camila as a little cyber child. “She plays video games and she likes to play games on my cell phone,” she said. She loves to sing and dance. Camila also loves animals, especially dogs.

Help our families focus on their sick child, not medical bills.
