The external kudos are quite an honor, but it’s stories like these—from employees who engage in the program—that confirm Living Well’s positive impact.

Back in July, I decided I needed to improve my health and drop a few unwanted pounds. Since the Living Well Center was opened and fully equipped, I figured I would give it a shot. I am down almost 15 pounds and feel GREAT! I get my blood pumping on the Stairmaster. I then move on to the weight machines and dumbbells for a little weight lifting … then back to the elliptical trainer to finish off my workout. I have recently devoted one day a week to a total cardio workout. I have added the rowing machine and bicycle to the Stairmaster and elliptical. The weight loss has been great, but just as great, is that all of my aches and pains are gone. I have three young boys to keep up with, and the Living Well Center has enabled me to better enjoy keeping up with them.

I wanted to write few lines to sincerely thank and appreciate the staff of the Living Well program. Their thorough knowledge and good techniques have made my road to fitness a breeze. Being a new mom is tough, and even tougher is getting your body back to fitness and strength. My coach has made these goals achievable. He not only worked at my level but made sure that I didn't stress my body. I think every employee should be thankful for having such well-experience coaches on campus and take advantage of this resource. I cannot thank them enough for their constant support and encouragement.

The Living Well Center has impacted me personally by allowing more balance into my everyday life and allowing more time for me to work on my personal health goals. About seven years ago, I was diagnosed with borderline high blood pressure in my mid-30s. I was extremely overweight, inactive and had no clue on how to even begin to take care of myself. I sought the advice from a nutritionist friend of mine, and she told me in very simple terms to eat a balanced diet and start some type of exercise at least three times a week. Needless to say, the weight and blood pressure starting dropping immediately. I have dropped a total of 80 pounds so far. Even though I know what I need to do to stay healthy, it is not always easy. I have found some tricks along the way to help me—one of them being that the Living Well Center has helped me become a morning exerciser. Before the center, I could only get to my gym after work, which made me late getting home and made me feel rushed and unbalanced. Now, I finally feel I have found the balance in my life!
