SHINE: Studying Stigma in Childhood Cancer

About this study

Children with cancer and their caregivers may be judged or treated differently by others. This is called stigma. It can make people feel left out. It may also keep families from seeking care or finishing treatment.

The SHINE study will help researchers learn more about these experiences and find ways to help. Participants will answer questions about stigma when they join the study. They will answer these questions again about 6 months later.

Researchers will use what they learn from these answers to create a program for children and caregivers who experience stigma. They hope this program will reduce stigma and lessen its effects on patients and families.
