Adrenocortical Tumors:
For Patients & Parents

Adrenocortical tumor (ACT) is a cancer of the adrenal glands. These glands are located on both kidneys and produce chemicals called hormones. These hormones help the body cope with stress, control blood pressure and keep a balance sodium, potassium and water. Other hormones, known as sex steroids, are produced by a part of the adrenal gland called the adrenal cortex.

We want to help patients and parents better understand ACT, including its symptoms, diagnosis, treatment options and genetic factors associated with the disease. At St. Jude, we have a collaborative team of physicians and scientists who treat and research ACT.

In this section, we provide information about ACT, how genetics are involved, as well as genetic testing and counseling for your family. We encourage you to explore other sections of this website, including information for clinicians and researchers. This will help you to understand ACT and the research we conduct, such as the International Pediatric Adrenocortical Tumor Registry (IPACTR). You may also be interested in participating in IPACTR.
