Patients should discuss wound care issues with their primary clinic. If a referral is needed, the primary clinic will request it.

Your wound care team

The Wound Care Clinic is staffed by advanced practice providers (APPs). These APPs are specially trained and educated in the care and treatment of wounds. They care for wounds related to cancer and other diseases at St. Jude.

What to expect during your visit

Your child’s treatment team will schedule their first clinic appointment.

The Wound Care Clinic team will review your child’s medical history and do a physical exam. They will also ask questions about the wound, including:

  • How long has the wound been there?
  • What have you done so far to treat it?
  • Who have you talked with about this wound?
  • What wound care treatments have helped?
  • What wound care treatments have not helped?

Once the team has asked you questions and examined the wound, they will suggest steps to treat it. They may teach you or your child how to care for the wound and give needed supplies. They may schedule follow-up appointments.
