Monitoring your patient's progress

Communicating with St. Jude

Referring physicians will receive regular updates on the child's progress. You will receive your first update after your patient arrives and completes his or her first review with the St. Jude care team. This initial status update should come within 72 hours. Follow-up information will be forthcoming.

You are welcome to contact us anytime with questions regarding your patient's treatment or side effects. To ensure exceptional medical care for your patient, St. Jude communicates with referring physicians before, during and after treatment. Communication occurs in two main ways:

  1. Through the Physician/Patient Referral Office.
  2. Through individual St. Jude physicians on your patient's care team.

Outpatient Care

Unlike a traditional hospital, most children at St. Jude are treated as outpatients. They only have to be at the hospital for tests, check-ups and treatments.

After St. Jude accepts your patient, we assist with travel plans and costs for your patient and one parent/guardian to travel back and forth from home to Memphis for planned treatments and check-ups. We actively encourage patients to see their local doctors when they are home. We know communication and coordination with children's home doctors is vital to their treatment and well-being.
