About this study
This study will gather information about neurological disorders that start in childhood. Neurological disorders can affect the brain, nerves, and muscles. The NEUROBANK study aims to help us better understand how and why these conditions develop over time. We will use this information to find and test new treatments for these diseases.
We will collect information from patients’ medical records, interviews, and answers to questionnaires. We may also collect:
- Medical history
- Demographic information (such as age, gender)
- Family health history
- Genetic test results
- Results of imaging tests, such as brain scans
- Results of other medical exams and tests
- Photos and videos
Patients do not need to travel to St. Jude to supply this information.
Our research team may ask that patients give us samples that may include:
- Blood and tissue
- Saliva (spit) or cheek swab
- Skin tissue (biopsy) to study skin cells
- Leftover or stored tissue
- DNA from cells, if already collected
Often, patients and families who come to St. Jude for other research studies may also be asked sign up for NEUROBANK to donate samples for St. Jude researchers.
We may also:
- Do genetic tests on the samples
- Grow and change cells from a sample in the lab
- Look for substances in the patient’s blood sample to help us measure signs of disease (biomarkers)
- Perform other tests with samples as needed
