About this study
When a child has a serious medical illness like cancer, parents may need to decide if they want their child to get treated in a clinical research study, also known as a clinical trial.
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital wants to know what helps parents make these decisions at St. Jude Affiliate Program sites. This will help the hospital learn how to make medical research studies better in the future.
This study will ask questions about parents and caregiver’s experiences with clinical trials and things that may be stopping them from enrolling (barriers). Parents will complete a survey about their family background, education, and home life.
Some participants will be asked if they would like to be paired with a parent navigator. A parent navigator is the parent of a child who has or had cancer and has experience at the St. Jude Affiliate Program sites. These parent-to-parent meetings or pairings are meant to give extra support and guidance during a stressful time. We want to see if this parent navigator support is helpful to newly diagnosed families.
The overall goal of this study is to understand how parents make decisions about clinical trials so that St. Jude can improve how it supports and communicates with families about medical research.
