About St. Jude Home Care

St. Jude Home Care, LLC, is a home health agency for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital patients who live in the Memphis area or in St. Jude housing.

St. Jude created the agency in 2021 to help patients receive more care in the comfort of their homes. By getting care at home, patients can avoid being around large groups of people who may be sick.

St. Jude Home Care is accredited in home health and is certified in pediatric care by Community Health Accreditation Partners (CHAP). This nonprofit group accredits home and community-based health care programs. St. Jude Home Care is the first agency in the United States to earn the pediatric care certification from CHAP.

Services we provide

Our services include:

  • Nursing care: Nurses give medicines, collect blood and urine for lab tests, care for wounds, manage IVs, provide central line and wound care, and teach families about treatment plans.
  • Home health aide: Aides help with daily tasks like bathing and dressing, assist with home exercises, take vital signs and weight, and remind patients and families about taking medicines on schedule.
  • Home infusion education visits: Home infusion pharmacy nurses teach family caregivers how to connect and start IV nutrition (TPN) bags. This means families do not have to visit the infusion center on campus as often. Home health nurses can also help connect and change bags for patients whose caregivers are not comfortable doing it themselves.
  • Physical therapy: Physical therapists help patients improve strength, movement, and function. They also can teach you and your child how to navigate your home safely with more ease and independence.
  • Occupational therapy: Occupational therapists help patients gain independence and learn to do everyday tasks at home. They focus on promoting development through play, feeding, hobbies, and daily living activities.

What to expect during your visit

St. Jude doctors refer patients to home care when patients and families need extra support away from the hospital. The home care staff works closely with St. Jude doctors to create a care plan that fits each child’s needs.

At each visit, you can expect home health staff to:

  • Go over the medicines your child is taking and answer questions
  • Talk about the treatment plan and help answer questions about your recent appointments and inpatient admissions
  • Help communicate care or supply needs to your child’s primary clinic
  • Check vital signs and pain levels

Each home visit will be based upon the services ordered by your provider and will be individualized to meet your child’s needs. Our nurses are skilled clinicians who can provide a head-to-toe check-up when ordered by your provider. This may include questions about depression, falls, emergency contacts, need for more services or support, home safety, and infection prevention.
