A partner since 2006, Kmart participates in the Thanks and Giving® campaign with a $1, $5 or $10 add-on program in more than 1,370 stores across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In its 2010 campaign, Kmart was once again the highest fundraising Thanks and Giving partner by raising $6.2 million, bringing its total giving to St. Jude to more than $23 million. Kmart is currently recognized on the Corporate Partnerships display in the Patient Care Center lobby for all of its efforts in supporting the hospital.
Kmart was proud to unveil Kmart for KidsTM in 2007, the umbrella program for Kmart's philanthropic initiatives. By offering opportunities to customers to give while they shop, Kmart makes it easy to become involved. Kmart's program focuses efforts on helping children in communities nationwide live happy, healthy lives. In 2010, Kmart expanded this effort with the Billion Points Promotion. Kmart’s Billion Points Promotion, which launched in July to celebrate the first anniversary of the Shop Your Way Rewards program, was held online and encouraged customers to post videos sharing what they would do if they won one billion reward points. Participants could choose two charities to share in the reward. In all, 44,774 videos were submitted, resulting in a grand prize worth $547,740. Todd Benjamin, a resident of Lakewood, Colo., was the top vote-getter, and was announced as the grand prize winner along with his two chosen charities, one of which included St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. St. Jude received $136,945 in product value from Sears Holdings Corporation, the parent company of Kmart.
